Glimpses of the journey

Your itinerary
A carefully paced journey with time to wander, taste and discover.
Welcome to Pula!
Your journey begins in Pula, Istria’s largest city and a place where over 3,000 years of history unfold effortlessly alongside modern life. After arriving at Pula Airport, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel, giving you time to settle in and unwind after your travels.
Once an important Roman settlement and later shaped by Venetian, Austro-Hungarian, and Italian influences, Pula offers a fascinating cultural mix and a relaxed coastal atmosphere.
In the evening, meet your Tour Manager and fellow travellers for a welcome dinner, the perfect opportunity to get to know your group and begin your Istrian adventure together.
Roman Pula & Wild Cape Kamenjak
This morning, step back in time with a guided walking tour of Pula’s Roman heritage. The undisputed highlight is the spectacular Pula Arena, one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world, still standing proudly at the heart of the city. As you explore, you’ll also discover the Arch of the Sergii, the elegant Temple of Augustus, and the historic Forum, where daily life has continued for over two millennia.
You’ll then venture underground into Zerostrasse, a network of tunnels built during World War I, revealing yet another layer of the city’s complex past.
In the afternoon, the scenery changes dramatically as you travel to Cape Kamenjak Nature Reserve, a rugged and unspoilt stretch of coastline at the southern tip of Istria. Enjoy a guided nature walk through limestone cliffs, hidden coves, and fragrant Mediterranean vegetation, with sweeping views over the Adriatic Sea – a refreshing contrast to the morning’s urban exploration.
Brijuni National Park & Olive Oil Traditions
Today is dedicated to one of Croatia’s most fascinating national parks: Brijuni. A short boat ride takes you to this island archipelago, once home to Romans, Venetian nobility, and later Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito.
A guided tour reveals layers of history: Roman villas, archaeological remains, landscaped gardens, and even dinosaur footprints, all set within a beautifully preserved natural environment. You’ll also gain insight into Brijuni’s unique 20th-century political past, when world leaders and celebrities gathered here.
Back on the mainland, the focus turns to one of Istria’s most celebrated products: olive oil. Visit a family-run estate where generations have perfected their craft. Learn about traditional and modern production methods before enjoying a tasting of award-winning oils, paired with regional snacks for a relaxed light lunch in the countryside.
Rovinj & Istrian Wine Country
Few places capture the romance of the Adriatic like Rovinj. This picturesque coastal town rises from the sea in a cascade of pastel-coloured houses, narrow cobbled streets, and Venetian architecture.
Your guided walking tour winds through the old town, climbing towards the iconic Church of St. Euphemia, where panoramic views stretch across the rooftops and out to the islands beyond. Along the way, you’ll discover hidden squares, local galleries, and stories of Rovinj’s maritime past.
A visit to the Batana Eco-Museum offers insight into the town’s fishing heritage, celebrating traditional wooden boats, local dialects, and customs recognised by UNESCO. Afterwards, enjoy a gentle batana boat ride along the coast, taking in Rovinj’s skyline from the water.
In the afternoon, travel inland to the rolling hills of Istrian wine country, where you’ll visit a boutique winery. Sample regional favourites such as Malvasia and Teran, guided by the winemaker and paired with light bites that highlight local flavours.
Grožnjan, Truffles & Arrival in Opatija
This morning, journey north to Grožnjan, a hilltop village known for its artistic spirit. Once nearly abandoned, it is now a vibrant creative hub filled with galleries, studios, and music echoing through medieval streets. Enjoy time to explore independently, soaking in the views over the Mirna Valley.
From here, head into the forests near Motovun, famous for producing some of the world’s finest truffles. Join a local truffle-hunting family and their trained dogs for an engaging walk through oak woods, learning how these prized delicacies are found.
The experience concludes with a truffle-themed lunch, where each dish celebrates Istria’s most famous culinary treasure.
Later in the afternoon, continue to the elegant seaside town of Opatija, your base for the next part of the journey.
Opatija & Riviera Cruise
Known as the “Nice of the Adriatic,” Opatija has long attracted travellers with its refined charm, grand villas, and lush gardens. A guided walking tour introduces you to its highlights, including historic parks, elegant architecture, and the famous Lungomare Promenade, a scenic coastal walkway stretching along the Kvarner Gulf.
Later, enjoy a private boat cruise along the Opatija Riviera. As you glide past charming coastal villages and pine-covered slopes, you’ll experience the timeless elegance that made this coast a favourite of European aristocracy.
The afternoon is free to relax … enjoy a café by the sea, browse local boutiques, or simply take in the tranquil coastal atmosphere.
Mošćenice & Farewell Dinner
A short journey brings you to Mošćenice, a beautifully preserved medieval village perched high above the sea. Wander its stone lanes, visit a traditional olive oil mill, and enjoy sweeping coastal views in one of Istria’s most peaceful settings.
Back in Opatija, enjoy free time before the journey’s culinary finale. In the late afternoon, travel inland to the slopes of Mount Učka for a hands-on Istrian cooking class led by a renowned local chef. Using seasonal ingredients from nearby farms, you’ll prepare traditional dishes while learning about regional food culture.
The experience ends with a warm and convivial farewell dinner, sharing the meal you helped create – a fitting conclusion to your Pathways journey.
